My Flowers, My Husband & Me.

Behind The Scenes

back

I love adventures. I love flowers. I love my husband. These things all combined last week when we went on an especially sweet adventure to Mount Glorious, and the lovely Amy from About Time Co. came and captured some gorgeous moments + images. (side note: you should absolutely check out them out. Amy and her husband, Chris, are an absolute power couple who take the most incredible photos!). I was following About Time Co on Instagram for quite some time, so when the opportunity came up to have a photoshoot with them I just could not resist! We had so much fun hanging out with Amy. She is kind, passionate, hilarious, and made the afternoon so relaxed and fun. We walked barefoot through a stream hidden amongst the trees, showcased my florals, had a few giggles, and created memories that will last a long, long time.

Since these photos feature myself, my husband and my flowers, I thought I’d share a bit about each of them!

My Flowers: I don’t often play the florist and the model. I’m so used to creating a bouquet and handing it to a bride for her wedding day (which, by the way, is one of my favourite parts about this job) so it was really fun to be able to make something for myself. I wanted to create a huge, luscious bouquet in a palette that is both feminine and pretty, but also bold and strong. I chose whites, vibrant pinks and magentas with dark burgundy accents and pops of apricot to tie in with my skirt. For me, texture is paramount. I love to use a variety of elements to create a rich canvas of texture, which is why there are 9 types of flowers + foliage used in this one design! I’m loving the wild and wayward concept that is ruling the flower industry at the moment. But I must admit, I also appreciate designs that include an element of ‘put together-ness’ amidst it’s wildness. I like to think that my style uses a balance of the unstructured waywardness of nature, yet a tasteful and classy aesthetic simultaneously. I finished the bouquet off with some chiffon fabric that I purchased and ripped into long lengths to create that soft, ethereal, trailing ribbon that everyone (including myself) adores.

My Husband: Dave is one of the reasons I’m doing this. He encouraged me to pursue this hobby that I loved and turn it into a career. He is my greatest supporter in the most wonderful ways. He gives honest encouragement and advice when it’s needed, he will prepare a delicious spread of snacks for me when I’m busy with flowers (and might even bring me a sneaky glass of wine… shh I didn’t say that), and will set up my workspace for me just to make my life a bit easier. He is cheeky, strong, thoughtful, passionate, and I’m so thankful to be able to share life with him.

Me: Well, obviously flowers are my world. It amazes me that there are just so many incredible varieties and colours available to us. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to do this as my job. Some other random facts about me: I really love dogs, I’m a big fan of seafood, I write songs, I love tea AND coffee (I’m not one of those tea OR coffee gals, both are equal in my books!) and I’ve watched F.R.I.E.N.D.S all the way through 6 times.

So, there you have it. I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post and getting to know me (and my flowers and husband) a bit better. I’d love to get to know you a bit better too!
