2020 has been a year to remember.

COVID-19 has presented some serious challenges for many individuals and societies around the globe – and in turn, has effected many engaged couples who are trying to plan their weddings as some tight restrictions were introduced to slow the spread of the virus.

How COVID-19 impacted weddings in Queensland

It’s pretty weird to think that at one stage, weddings were limited to just 5 people – the couple, the celebrate and two witnesses! I have photographer friends who shot elopements and had to sign as the witness! With state and international borders being closed, social distancing regulations, restrictions around the number of people allowed at weddings based on the size of the location, no dancing, no mingling, no hugging…

Weddings have looked very different than they did at the start of 2020.

It’s strange to think back to January and February. But you know, some of our most favourite weddings happened in the first 2.5 months of the year! We did 9 weddings before restrictions were introduced and the wedding industry was turned upside down. We began the year with a booked out calendar, and by the end of March things were looking wildly different. Approximately half of our 2020 couples had to move their wedding dates to the end of 2020, or into 2021.

Dare I say, in queensland, we were pretty ‘lucky’.

My heart ached – and aches – for the couples who had to go through the stressful and emotional ordeal of changing their wedding date and all of the logistics and drama that surrounds such a decision – and I know some couples are still questioning their wedding plans even now. However, what we were expecting to be over 6 months of restrictions and lockdown, ended up being a little over 3 months before restrictions started to ease here in Queensland. On July 11th, weddings with up to 100 people were allowed in Queensland. And guess what, it was ON July 11th that we had our first ‘normal’ wedding back! There were still plenty of other restrictions (not to mention the borders still being closed) that still forced couples to postpone, however quite a few couples persevered and had their big days in the second half of 2020. Since July, we have been pretty busy flowering for weddings in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and beyond!

Even though we only executed about half of the weddings we were expecting to, 2020 was filled with so many beautiful moments.

I thought it would be nice to write a blog all about the best moments of 2020 and share just some of the glorious weddings that we had the honour of designing florals for this year. You’ll see weddings that we did flowers for at venues like Gabbinbar Homestead, Ancora Tweed Heads, Kooroomba Vineyard & Lavendar Farm, Yabbaloumba Retreat, Hillstone St. Lucia, Cedar Creek Lodges and Customs House in Brisbane. So many beautiful venues -and this is just some of them!

I hope you enjoy scrolling through these joyful moments!
